UDems: Senate candidate Paul Hackett

The University Democrats at the University of Virginia are proud to host U.S. Senate candidate Paul Hackett as part of the 2005 Principles in Politics Speaker Series on Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:00 p.m. Hackett recently announced his Senate campaign on October 24th and will be joining UDems in 108 Clark Hall at U.Va; the meeting is open to the public.
A Marine major and former congressional candidate, Paul Hackett has arrived on the political scene as an outspoken opponent of President Bush. A veteran of the Iraq War, he would be the first Iraqi War veteran to serve in Congress. In July, Hackett lost the Ohio Second Congressional District special election to Rep. Jean Schmidt by a margin of less than 4 points in a 70% Republican district. He will face U.S. Representative Sherrod Brown (D-OH) in the Senate primary.
